Kitchen Mixer Help

I bought this mixer for myself for Christmas 1999. I love it! I don’t know how I ever lived without it!

I do a lot of gourmet cooking, but used to "get by" with inferior equipment. I’ve seen these mixers on TV and at friends’ houses, so I knew there had to be something special about them. They are a bit pricey, but this baby’s going to outlive you and me. I highly recommend saving your money, and getting the best.

You’ve got to try the bread making feature! The recipe for French bread that comes with the mixer is the best I’ve ever had. Enjoy!

My mother just recently purchased a Kitchen Aid. During Thanksgiving I was at her house helping cook dinner. I was using her Kitchen Aid and just fell in love with. I was nothing like the mixer I use at home, and soon after that my mixer broke. So ever sense that moment I asked every one I knew I wanted a Kitchen Aid for Christmas, but no one would buy it for me because it was too expensive.

The bowl is mounted in bowl arms which are manually raised and locked simultaneously - or lowered and opened, respectively. The column contains the motor and the bowl arm mechanism. The top traverse contains the transmission system consisting of the moveable pulleys, the intermediate belt drive and the planetary head. Start and stop push buttons are mounted on a frontplate along with the contactor for protecting the motor against overload. A 15 minute electrical timer with HOLD feature is standard on the W40. Mixing tools are mounted in a bayonet shaft in the planetary head.

I am absolutely convinced that this is the mixer God used to stir up the cosmos and send the galaxies into orbit. That’s how strong it is.

I struggled for years with a beautiful but seriously design-flawed stand mixer before remodeling my kitchen. I used that as an excuse to get rid of it and buy the one I’d been dreaming of, the KitchenAid K5SS.

There’s a lot to like about this machine:

• The bowl holds five quarts. If you’re a professional baker, that might not be enough for you, but for home bakers like me, it’s enough to hold double quantities of my favorite recipes. It also has a handle, which is very handy - no pun intended.

I work in a cake shop and I have wanted this mixer for some time. It has a 600 watt motor. It is compatible with the kitchen-aid attachments and the price was much better. It seemed to have it all. When I first got it home and started it up I was so disappointed. It sounded like a jet plane. I thought maybe it needed to warm up. I made a few things thinking the noise might ease up, boy was I wrong. I got a nasty head ache in less than 20 minutes. I thought maybe mine was the only one that was noisy. My boss had also bought one so I asked her to try hers to see if I just got a bad one. After a couple minutes she put it back in the box and took it back to the store. I was so embarrassed.

I am an avid baker and enjoy preparing everything from my own homebaked bread (no bread machine please!) to cookies, cakes, pies, brownies and once I even made whole wheat crackers. I had gotten to the point where my bread didn’t rise very well when I hand kneaded it. It still tasted as good as it ever did, but what was the problem? I was also using a hand held mixer to beat all the other ‘from scratch’ recipes and it was a chore.

I have just added this to my gift list after using at my brother’s house recently. Because I do almost everything with my KitchenAid stand mixer, I didn’t think that I would need a hand mixer, but I’m wrong.

This mixer has two regular beaters, plus a third which you use by itself for meringues or whipped cream. There wasn’t any job I couldn’t use it for from mashed potatoes to cheesecake to pancake batter.

The mixer has several different settings which you see through an LED display. To add more power for more difficult mixing (like beating cream cheese), you simply press a button on the handle with your thumb.
