Kitchen Mixer Help

We tried five Kitchen Aid mixers before giving up in disgust. Then we discovered this Kenwood Major Classic. We needed to be able to make large quantities of whole grain bread. It has never let us down. Bigger than any personal mixer, not as big as a commercial one. We have used it constantly for six years, and it has never given us one bad moment. With its heavy-duty motor, it mixes heavy dough like a charm. Very easy to clean, unlike the Bosch. Heavy stainless steel bowl is the highest quality–no plastic to scratch or outgas.

I do a lot of baking, and as a result, I’m very hard on mixers. I make a lot of Wilton cakes, so my stand mixer is usually busy with frosting, so I need a hand mixer to mix my cake batter.

When my trusty Farberware hand mixer gave up the ghost recently, I started looking at new hand mixers, but my husband took matters into his own hands and got me the KitchenAid 7-Speed Artisan Hand Mixer, Model KHM7TOB.

Once you have discovered the Kitchen Aid Mixer, you will need it in your

kitchen like you need your potholders. I used to mix everything with a hand

held mixer.

Don’t get me wrong, a hand held electric mixer is much better than a spoon,

but the Kitchen Aid Mixer is hands-free. There is nothing like the sound of

your cake batter mixing while you are preparing the streusel filling. Just

about the only thing I stir with a spoon are eggs for scrambling; I even mix

my pancake batter with it.

Since the dawn of my relationship with my wife she has been wanting one of these things. As time progressed and mixer after mixer went to the scrap heap I decided my money was better spent once. Mom had one of these. She died but it’s still going! (Yes, I know MORBID!)

General Information

This mixer is not for the faint of heart. I comes standard with 1 mixing bowl, 1 wisk, 1 general mixing paddle and 1 hook shaped mixing thing for dough. The wisk is clear annodized stainless steel and cast aluminum top. (Food service regulations) The mixing paddle and hook are coated with a white plastic (I believe) or enamel type substance. They work exceptionally well.

I’ve always wanted a KitchenAid mixer but couldn’t justify the need until my friend and I started to learn how to bake. She got the Mixmaster since it was on sale for only $99 but I decided to purchase this mixer because I want something that could last long (hopefully) and could do a good job. Of course it was by far more expensive than a Mixmaster but I figured it is expensive for a reason. So without hesitating, I went to buy this Artisan Model in Onyx Black since it also came with a free 3-Qt bowl and Spatula set Rebate. I then used it to bake a birthday cake for my husband. However, I found out that there was something wrong with the motor. It was making a loud and abnormal grinding noise from Stir to Speed 4. What’s worse, once in a while, the mixer head would skip a few times while in Speed 4 or higher. Ok…something was not right so I decided to “warm up” the mixer for a few days by turning it on and let it run for a few minutes, twice a day. Unfortunately, it was still making that loud grinding noise and never got better. So, I called their customer service and explained to the lady about the motor, and let her listen over the phone. Without further questions, she proceeded to send a new unit out to our house for a replacement. The call didn’t even take 5 mins. And in less than 1 week, the new mixer arrived. It was a brand new mixer and not a refurbished one. Once it was set up on the counter, I tested it out by making a pound cake. The mixer ran really smoothly and very quietly. No skips and no hesitation either. Now I am just waiting for UPS to pick up the old one to be sent back to KitchenAid.

I wish all appliance companies can provide the same service as KitchenAid.

I’ve been lusting after one of these beautiful mixers for years. Several months ago I finally gave in to temptation and made the purchase. Since then I’ve used my KitchenAid just about everyday. There has been more than one occasion where I chose what to make just so I could use it. Yeah, it’s like sex on the counter (okay, not quite, but I like it anyway).
