Kitchen Mixer Help

Well, I wanted to buy myself a mixer so I started to look for what I should buy. From checking a lot of places and watching TV, I had decided that I would buy myself a kitchen aid.

Now, you must take into consideration that I’m not a professional chef, I’m just a beginner who plans to learn more and more about cooking, especially pastry. I have not owned a mixer before, so I can’t compare this Kenmore mixer to any other mixers. All I can say is that I wanted a mixer and I went around looking.

The Delonghi DSM7 is a wonderful looking mixer. But that is about it. Despite the advantages of using the blender and other attachments, after only a few months of light duty usage- the planetary motion on the mixer failed.

When I was considering this mixer, I was also considering KitchenAid mixers. The Delognhi DSM7 won out because as countertop stand mixers go- it had the largest mixing bowl, highest wattage on the motor, and a blender attachement. It also had the option of many other attachments such as a fruit & veggie juicer, food processor, meat grinder, etc.

I had been researching for a stick blender for some time, when I saw Alton Brown use one on Good Eats on the Food Network, he highly recommended it, but never mentioned it by name. The Bamix DeLuxe Hand blender has a fairly distinctive design, so I researched on line until I found the Bamix. After reading descriptions and reviews, I decided that it was the blender for me. But beware, it’s blades don’t look anything like the ones you will see on the other brands of stick blenders out there, they look kind of puny, but they really work and the motor or the Bamix De Luxe is a powerhouse that does not poop out after a minute or two.

My main reason for wanting a stick blender is because I make a protein smoothie with ice almost every day ( and was looking for something easier to clean up after than my Braun stand blender). Most of the immersion blenders I looked into were not recommended for crushing ice - Bamix said no problem. Well, I looked all over my area (Virginia Beach) and could not find one, and was about to order it on line, when I happened to find one in a gourmet store in Chapel Hill, NC.

K45SSW Stand Mixer: Pros: Is sturdy, you don’t have to worry about it wobbling at high speeds. Strong, you can mix the stiffest dough or knead bread without straining the motor. Long lasting, It is metal, not plastic, and the stainless steel bowl will last forever. Expandable, You can buy attachments such as meat grinder and pasta maker to add on later. Attractive, sleek classic design will look good anywhere. Con: Very heavy. This was actually a pro for me as I wanted something to stay put and not "walk" across the counter, but I wouldn’t want to have to carry it around. I bought this mixer 3 years ago for myself and have never regretted it. Every time I use it I think, "I love this thing".
