My Best Deal Ever

I consider myself very fortunate when it comes to my KitchenAid stand mixer, I found it at a closeout store, brand spanking new, still in the box with the original $219.00 price marked down to $50.00! It was the last one in the store and as I was holding it in my hands the sales clerk was asking me if I were going to buy it because there was someone on the phone who wanted it if I were not going to buy it. I couldn’t wait to get home and tell the girls on AOL’s Tightwad board, they would be as thrilled as I was about my great deal and some of them still talk about it to this day. That was over a year ago and I consider it my best deal of all time, it was my lucky day! : )

This Kitchen Aid 4.5 Quart Stand Mixer was a wedding present that I received from my Mother over three years ago. My mother has loved her Kitchen Aid appliances for years and she gave this to me along with Kitchen Aid Ultra Power 5-Speed Blender and a Kitchen Aid 9 Cup Classic Food Processor. I was thrilled to have such great quality products in my new kitchen, and my husband was delighted to have a wife that would cook and bake for him!

To be honest I’m not a super chef. My boyfriend has recently decided to take cooking lessons, and as a gift I sprung for this mixer. Not thinking that there was a big deal of difference in mixers I picked the one that was the cutest. Luckily for me this one also happens to be ideal. I don’t use it much, however it is simple enough for me to use, and it’s attachments are actually really easy to remove and attach unlike other machines i used to own, and it is easy to clean.

He too has found it to be great for his puff pastry dough, among other things. It is heavy and very durable. It was dropped in its box on the way up to the apartment and it had no problems. The only thing bad I have to say about it, is that it is very expensive. I bought it on sale at $230.99. Well, I can say another bad thing as well. It’s very cute, but now I feel as if I have to decorate my kitchen with all kitchen aid appliances.

I learned to cook on a true vintage Sunbeam Mix Master - my mother’s model from the 1950’s. I grew up with it and when I got my first job in the early 1970’s I bought my own stainless Mix Master. It was my first purchase for my “hope chest”.

That Mix Master took me through three children and 30+ years of celebrations, funerals, birthdays, Easter, Christmas and Thanksgivings. Two years ago a friend gave me a Kitchen Aid mixer as a gift, telling me how superior it was to the Sunbeam. Yeah, right . . .

Just before Christmas I was given a $25 gift certificate for Target. My first thought was; “Great, this will help pay for my husband’s Christmas gift.” So I stuck it in my wallet, to wait for the day. Meanwhile, I had promised my daughter that this year we would make cookies together. But my arm was dreading it. I knew that this was going to involve a lot of mixing, and all I had was a hand mixer that had been my mother-in-law’s. So I kept putting her and the cookies off.
