I didn’t purchase the mixer earlier because I was weary of spending $300 on a mixer, especially when I only did a lot of baking during the holidays. When I was getting married I decided to add one to our registry, and someone purchased it for me. After making my first batch of cookies with it, I wish I had bought it for myself years ago. With a stand mixer you can begin mixing and continue measuring out ingredients. It is also very powerful - I have found that most things are mixed in about half of the time it would take to use a hand mixer.
Tags: KitchenAidI received this mixer as a gift almost 2 years ago. I’ve only used it 3 or 4 times. Yesterday, in the middle of a batch of cookie dough, it just died. I turned the mixer off to add more ingredients to the dough, and the mixer refused to start again. I have no idea what the problem is. I assume the motor is fried? I tried different outlets, it has to be the mixer at fault. My dough wasn’t especially thick and I hadn’t been running it for an especially long time either. This mixer is just junk. I called customer service, but of course the warranty is only one year, so Sunbeam will do nothing for me. I think it is ridiculous for a mixer to die after being used 4 times. I won’t buy this brand again.

Having worked in commercial kitchens, I have become very familiar with Kitchen Aid. It is the brand of large (I mean really, really large) mixer as well as small mixer used in almost all commercial kitchens. Of all the chefs that I know, I don’t know any who don’t personally own a Kitchen Aid mixer.
The Heavy Duty mixer is made for the more serious cook. I use it for breads, cakes, cookies, brownies, all pastries really. I have never had any problems with it. I especially like the fact that it takes the abuse that I give it. I have a bread recipe that calls for kneading it 8-10 minutes. Instead of hand kneading, I can use the dough hook and end up with a much smoother and more elastic dough after only two minutes in the mixer.
My mom, who does not bake like I do, has the regular Kitchen Aid. She has had it for years and didn’t get it new. She has never had any problems with it.
A week before I delivered my first child, I was pacing the floors, about to go crazy, already three weeks overdue. So my wonderful husband suggested we drive “down the mountain” to get “out of the house” and walk around “The Mall,” which was 50 miles from our small town.
I hesitated for about five seconds, considering being that far from home and the possibility of going into labor, and…off we went.
We had a wonderful day and came home with my prized, still in perfect shape, now 26 years old, Kitchen Aid 45SS Stand Mixer. I have been in love ever since!
I am so disappointed.
This is a terrible way to start a review, especially of a product I was so excited to purchase. I believe KitchenAid has a hard-earned reputation for quality, that they are squandering today due to the use of a poor quality component in their mixers.

I had a 5 quart Kitchen Aid mixer for 12 years and loved it! I made bread with it, and at times it struggled, but always came through. When it finally broke, I replaced it…with what I thought would be more efficient, the 6 quart mixer! Bigger NOT better!

Tags: SparThis year I purchased a Kenwood mixer for doing my holiday baking. I already have a KitchenAid mixer, but wanted something larger and more powerful. The KitchenAid I have only has a 3.5 quart capacity, and has 325 watts of power. I make a LOT of holiday goodies and the KitchenAid just wasn”t enough.
