Wonderful Mixer! - KitchenAid 325 Watts Artisan KSM150PS Stand Mixer I recently received this as a gift and I'm CRAZY about it. I've used it at least once a day since I got it and I'...
I am an avid baker and enjoy preparing everything from my own homebaked bread (no bread machine please!) to cookies, cakes, pies, brownies and once I even made whole wheat crackers. I had gotten to the point where my bread didn’t rise very well when I hand kneaded it. It still tasted as good as it ever did, but what was the problem? I was also using a hand held mixer to beat all the other ‘from scratch’ recipes and it was a chore.
I had wanted a Kitchen Aid mixer for years. I really hadn’t even considered any other kind because all the cooking programs on television had this mixer in their kitchens. If that’s what Julia Child uses I felt that was the brand to get. I had looked at a CuisinArt mixer at my local kitchen supply store, but it just wasn’t as appealing as the Kitchen Aid.
Much to my surprise, I received for Christmas 3 years ago a Kitchen Aid Heavy Duty K5SS Stand Mixer. It is a very pretty cobalt blue and blends in with the other kitchen appliances nicely. It has a dough hook, whisk and beater attachment and a removable stainless steel bowl. It’s 10 speed motor is great and has never overheated, even when faced with a difficult beating job.
When using the dough hook to knead my homemade bread, it cut the time and labor down to 20% of the original effort. And the beautifully risen bread loaves told me that I hadn’t been kneading the bread nearly as vigorously as I had needed to. (I guess the arthritis is catching up to me!) The whisk beats egg whites to super stiff peaks, great for the pie making. Cookie making is a breeze, even double batches and recipes with a lot of nuts or fruit.
The bowl is deep but care must be taken not to turn the mixer on to quickly or you and the kitchen will be covered in a fine coating of flour. I didn’t get the bowl guard with my mixer, but it can be ordered at extra cost. The mixer cleans up without too much difficulty and I noticed there is even an 800 telephone number on the rear of my mixer to reach a repair service. (That’s nice because I can never find the paper inserts that come with anything! I don’t think I’ll be needing that number anytime soon however!)
My Kitchen Aid Heavy Duty K5SS Stand Mixer is a life saver and saves me untold labor, making baking a pleasure without endless effort! I love it!
