I could do handstands raving about my KSM90. But the most interesting thing I discovered about it is its similarity to the higher-priced KSM103. (If you want to see my comparison of the two models, see my opinion on the KSM103. It could open your eyes and make your choice of purchase a whole lot easier.) You may be surprised as I was about the two models.

But my KSM90 is the latest addition to my kitchen small-appliance repertoire. A gift from my sister (ok, it spans over several birthdays and Christmases), it has been one of the most-used machines in my kitchen.

As utilitarian as it is attractive, its three mixing attachments (the dough hook, whipper, and beater) work differently from most other brand mixers–but do the job quicker and better. Bread dough kneaded in 2 or 3 minutes? Unheard of–but much more easily and efficiently accomplished with the KSM90 than by hand. And no matter how long I hand-knead dough, it never comes out as smooth and elastic as the KitchenAid dough hook makes it.

The stainless steel bowl locks into the unit, so there is no chance of spills. The head of the mixer locks down, also–so the unit does its chore steadily and evenly. The beaters are one-hand easy to attach and lock into place. And they’re dishwasher safe, too (as is the stainless steel bowl). The unit wipes down with a damp cloth and is as clean and shiny as the day I unpacked it.

This is a machine no kitchen should do without. If you cook and bake, you’ll never need another mixer in your lifetime.
