This is the legendary Kenwood with the 700-watt motor. The regular Kitchenaid has a 300-watt motor-less than half the power. Even the “professional” Kitchenaid has just 525 Watts, and it lacks the Delonghi’s tip-up head–making access to the bowl a nuisance.
If you only use a mixer for beating eggs or mixing cakes, and could really get by with a hand-mixer, but want a stand mixer that comes in pretty colors from a company that has paid lots for celebrity chef endorsements, and don’t mind paying more money for less power, convenience and reliability, get a Kitchenaid.
Otherwise, save your money and get a mixer that can actually hack it when it comes to big bread batches.
This is a great mixer with infinitely variable power–not just 5 or 10 speeds. It can handle big dough batches with ease. While it does make some noise in operation, it sounds smooth and doesn’t shake.
My whisk went missing a couple of years ago. I’ve been using the “K” beater instead, which is so efficient that it beats eggs and cream as well as a whisk. I haven’t replaced the whisk and don’t miss it.
The only problem with this mixer is that parts are harder to find, but not impossible. Kenwood UK makes the mixer, but doesn’t sell it in North America. Rival used to market it, then they stopped, and now Delonghi seems to have taken over. Specialty stores and online merchants are the only ones who carry parts.
Service has been a non-issue as nothing has broken despite constant heavy use. I notice lots of Kitchenaids are available refurbished…what does that tell you about reliability?
Hopefully, word of mouth will convert consumers from the Kitchenaid hype, and this mixer will become more available.
