Gets the job done! - Black & Decker 175 Watts MX45 PowerPro® Hand Mixer I have had my mixer for several months now and am very happy with it. I like it's compact size and light weight. ...
I seem to have bad luck with mixers as of late. I have gone through a few hand-mixers and they all seem to have the same problem. Even at their lowest speeds, they are too fast.
The Black & Decker PowerPro Hand Mixer is just more of the same. It looked promising, coming with a variety of beaters and a Power Boost feature that allows the mixer to momentarily speed up. I thought that would be very helpful when I was doing things such as creaming butter.
Out of the box the Black & Decker PowerPro Hand Mixer looks good. Theres a spatula attachment that allows the user to scrape the bowl as they are using the mixer. There is also a bowl rest so I dont have to take the beaters out of the bowl for a moment when I want to add ingredients or if the phone rings. For those times I do want to take the beaters out of the bowl, theres a heel rest for the counter. The handle also has a comfort-grip feature that prevents it from slipping and makes it comfortable to hold, even for long periods.
The 250 watt motor is strong and cuts through everything. I can cream butter right out of the fridge that hasnt softened. Whipping egg whites is easy with the Black & Decker PowerPro Hand Mixer and the motor doesnt get all that hot while performing a prolonged task such as that.
While the Black & Decker PowerPro Hand Mixer doesnt have a problem with mixes that require high speeds or a strong motor, it does have issues with things on low speeds. I can plug it in and move the lever that adjusts the five speeds out of the OFF position to the first speed and it doesnt go on. Doesnt go on at the second speed either. This is a problem if I want a slow mix. I have been able to put it onto the first or second speed and then press the Power Boost module, and it does work. I dont like having to do this as then my finger must hold down the Power Boost in order to get the mixer to work. Besides that, it does seem like its still running at a speed thats a bit on the high side for what I want.
Wet ingredients tend to splatter, and not just around the edge of the bowl but outside of the bowl. Its pretty easy to make a mess of my kitchen while using the Black & Decker PowerPro Hand Mixer for cake batter or cookie dough. Dry ingredients are something I dont even try anymore. Even when mixing something like a cup of flour into moist ingredients I get a cloud emanating from the bowl.
I also am not a big fan of the spatula attachment. To me, it just gets in the way while Im trying to use the mixer. Its one of the first things I took off and its sitting in one of my kitchen drawers.
The whisk beater do work well for egg whites and whipping cream. The Black & Decker PowerPro Hand Mixer works wonders on items that need a high whipping or mixing speed.
Cleaning it is easy, and I know that for sure after its been splattered so many times. The beaters and attachments can go into the dishwasher with no problem. The housing of the mixer is plastic and generally wipes down with a damp cloth.
I paid a lot less for this than I did my last mixer, so at least I dont feel bad that I invested in a mixer Im not satisfied with. I need a hand mixer that will mix at a low speed as well as a high one. Ive yet to find one. The Black & Decker PowerPro Hand Mixer is definitely not it.
