Sometime last year I decided I wanted a new mixer. No, not because my KitchenAid had died on me but because it was too large for the uses I now had for it. My family had grown up and moved out and I now did minimal baking.
I wanted something smaller, easier to handle and store. I started doing my homework on choosing a good handheld mixer, one that would last for years and I wouldn’t have any problems with.
After reading and looking at products I decided on the Cuisinart SmartPower CountUp 9-Speed Mixer HTM-9LB because of the features this offers plus the name Cuisinart.
When taking it out of the packaging you will notice that you get two beaters plus one balloon whisk. The beaters are easily inserted and don’t have the center post so that makes for easy cleaning and better mixing of the ingredients. Also, with the center post being gone, you don’t have dough creeping up the beater onto the mixer. Less stopping to clean the beaters and they are longer than most beaters.
The balloon whisk is a good size for a handheld model and does a remarkable job of beating egg whites for the meringues on pies. Just make sure when beating egg whites, everything is free of any kind of grease as this will spoil the process.
The mixer has what is called a maximum comfort handle which I find to be much better than most standard hand mixers. It seems to be a little larger and easier to grip. Your hands don’t get so tired and people with arthritis will find this an easier product to use.
The weight is a little heavy but not unbearably so. It weighs in at around three pounds and has 220 watts of power. This tears through stiff dough like cookie and pie. I have tried Black and Decker that has 230 watts of power and it doesn’t even come close to giving the power that you need. Also the Cuisinart has Automatic Feedback that gives you that extra burst of power when it is needed.
There are nine speeds on the Cuisinart SmartPower CountUp 9-Speed Mixer HTM-9LB. Three extra low speeds that help when folding in ingredients.
The smooth start feature gradually speeds up to the speed that you want. No more flour all over the counters and walls.
The speeds are easily read on the LED Readout along with a timer. The timer starts once you start beating. This is a great help as a lot of recipes say beat for so many minutes. You don’t have to search the kitchen for that timer that you put away and forgot where you put it.
The swivel cord is fantastic, it can easily be moved for either left handed or right handed folks. You don’t have to spend time holding the cord so it stays out of your way.
The Cuisinart SmartPower CountUp 9-Speed Mixer HTM-9LB is easily cleaned. The housing is plastic so all you have to do is wipe with a damp cloth and dry. You are finished. The beaters just drop into the dishwasher and come out clean. There is no residue left that you have to clean off.
When storing, I just wrap the cord around the mixer and place in a large kitchen drawr until I am ready to use again.
Cuisinart offers a 3 year limited warranty on this product. I have owned quite a few Cuisinart products over the years and have never had to get in contact with them about anything, except a plastic bowl my hubby put in the dishwasher and melted.
For the 8 months that I have owned the Cuisinart SmartPower CountUp 9-Speed Mixer HTM-9LB it has performed flawlessly.
I highly recommend this to anyone that is looking for a good reliable hand mixer.
