The Delonghi DSM7 is a wonderful looking mixer. But that is about it. Despite the advantages of using the blender and other attachments, after only a few months of light duty usage- the planetary motion on the mixer failed.

When I was considering this mixer, I was also considering KitchenAid mixers. The Delognhi DSM7 won out because as countertop stand mixers go- it had the largest mixing bowl, highest wattage on the motor, and a blender attachement. It also had the option of many other attachments such as a fruit & veggie juicer, food processor, meat grinder, etc.

The mixer itself is solid. I really liked my intial impressions of it. Very modern looking and has an imposing look on the counter. Because it broke down in a few months- my expereinces with it are limited.

The dial to start and set the mixing speed was easy to use and worked smoothly. It was noisy when I first got it- I suspect this was the gearbox that failed on me. The bowl is huge- 7 quarts. The mixer seems to be powerful- but I never got to put it to the test with bread or any other serious mixing.

I didn’t care for the pour shield, it always made a mess trying to get things in the bowl. If you take off the shield and pour directly into the bowl, the bowl is still narrow and you end up making a mess still with ingredients like flour.

The mixer came with a blender which worked well. One of my motivations for getting this specific mixer was the blender attachment since I blew out three other blenders. I figured I would have a hard time blowing the 980 watt motor. Now that I have had a blender on the mixer- it is not as great as I hoped. Not to mention that when the mixer went away so did the blender. It is odd to have a blender setting so high on the mixer and it is not as stable as I would have like. You cannot leave it unattended. I noticed also the virbation tended to loosen the bottom of the blender.

I do not receommend the all-in-one approach to appliances as I had tried with the mixer.

Now onto my expereince with getting my mixer fixed. I called Delonghi and confirmed my serial number for warranty coverage and found out they have no warranty shops in Dallas- IN DALLAS, TEXAS- they have no warranty repair centers- very lame.

So they gave me a shop to call and ship my mixer to in Houston, turns out the shop was going out of business. Called back again to get the number for a shop in New Mexico. A few weeks go by and the shop tells me there is a part that is needed but is on extended back order till Dec 2006- they told me that in late June- I shipped the mixer late May 2006. I check in every couple of weeks and finally the guy says he will try and get a replacement unit.

Then comes the kicker- because I bought the unit from an unauthorized reseller they will not repair it under warranty or send a replacement. They made me spend my money to ship the mixer to New Mexico and wait 6 months to tell me they would not cover the mixer under warranty. Why couldn’t these losers tell me this on the phone before I shipped the unit.

Delonghi does not deserve your business. This rebadged mixer (originally made by Kenwood) with their lack of customer care is not worth your business. As a result of this fiasco- I am out almost $400 for a mixer that I didn’t get three months of usage.

RECAP: No customer service, if you buy this mixer- you are on your own. Low availability of parts- if you get customer service, you may end up waiting several months for parts. Few repair centers available- closest one to Dallas, TX is New Mexico- you ship on your own dime. After you ship they may not call you or they may tell you that you have no warranty.

The fish stinks from the head and Delonghi stinks all over. As of today that mixer I bought is still at the repair shop. I will not ever buy another Delonghi product after this experience. I just ordered a KitchenAid KP26M1X (Professional 600)- I am sticking with tried and true as mixers go.
