Gets the Job done - KitchenAid KHM5TB Classic Plus Hand Mixer I bought my Kitchen Aid Classic 5 speed mixer at bed bath and beyond in December '05. It came with a bonus blender...
I have found the Kitchen Aid 5 Speed Classic Plus Hand Mixer to be an excellent product that can keep up with the needs of my large family. I have three growing boys and a husband to feed, in addition to myself and my daughter. Due to this fact, whatever I make has to be quadrupled and not just any mixer can tackle that big of a job. In fact, it was because my previous $10 mixer ended up with a burnt out motor that I came to purchase this mixer. I was looking for one that could last under all the strain it would have to endure in my household.
Over the years I have had this mixer, I have made massive batches of different baked goods. Being a family favorite, one of the more frequent things I make is oatmeal raisin cookies. Mixing the dough for this is a tough job, especially when quadrupled. However, this mixer has kept up with me so easily, I suspect I will still be using it when making cookies for my great-grandchildren. This is a mixer that is definitely made to last.
This mixer has not only completed those tough jobs to my satisfaction, but it also has handled more delicate jobs such as whipping egg whites and sugar into a frothy concoction. I would not recommend using the highest speed for this or any other liquid mixture, at least not until it has thickened up some, since at that speed the liquid will be thrown everywhere. I unfortunately speak from experience.
The Kitchen Aid 5 Speed Classic Plus Hand Mixer is made of a very sturdy, light weight plastic, comes with a 5″ cord and tie, 2 mixing beaters, and 1 drink whip. I have to say, I immediately fell in love with the mixing beaters, because they do not look like the standard beaters, in fact they look more like little metal whisks. The drink whip is a metal rod with a round plastic piece that has slanted holes in it. On the few occasions I have used this, I have found it to be an effective way to mix any drink. The speed control/off button is on the handle, along with the beater eject button. The mixer has 5 different speeds with 1 being the slowest and 5 being the fastest.
Anyone looking for a mixer that can really do the job, should definitely buy this one!
