I remember when my mother first purchased our Kitchen Aid food processor. None of us realized what a staple this would become in our kitchen.
Durability
- My mother purchased a Kitchen Aid mixer between 15 and 20 years ago (by my recollection) and it is still going strong.
- What is even better is that in all that time she has had no problems with the mixer.
Attachments
- Even the most basic models come with the general attachments of
- flat beater (for cakes and loose fillings)
- dough hook (for bread)
- wire whip (for whipped cream)
- If your Kitchen Aid doesn’t come with one, buy the pouring shield. After adding a few cups of flower to the mix you will be very, very grateful that you did!
- An extra mixing bowl is also nice to have (although we don’t own one).
Models
- Although I prefer the most basic model (which is what I just bought), the lift lever model seems like a good idea. However, after using my mothers for so many years, I can’t think what I will need it for.
Colors
- If you choose to buy this mixer, you will find that Kitchen Aids come in a variety of colors to match almost any kitchen. I believe this model is only available in white and "almond cream" however, if you want another color, other models are available in other colors. (The K5SSDWH comes in white, white on white, almond cream, cobalt blue, empire green, onyx black, majestic yellow, empire red and imperial grey. - To view their colors, you can jump to the Kitchen Aid link from the epinions Kitchen Aid main page.)
Ease of Use
- My family has found this mixer very simple and easy to use. The mixing control is basically just a lever that you slide from 1 (light mixing) to 10 (whipped cream mixing). It is pretty intuitive and the mixing bowl "locks" in place to prevent slipping (children will have to be helped to get the bowl out).
All in all, I would easily recommend this mixer to anyone! As a matter of fact, this article could have just as easily been posted under kitchen "must haves".
