I have the Imperial Gray Epicurean 6 Quart Stand Mixer. These are the things that I really love about it:
-the stainless steal bowl is big enough to triple a cookie recipe and double a bread recipe
-it’s very stylish - looks good on the counter
-powerful motor - can handle those 2x or 3x batches
-Ten speeds are just about all you’ll need, whether you’re using the dough hook for bread or the wire whisk to make whipped cream or meringue.
-The slow start feature of the motor is really nice. It starts up slowly so that you don’t get flour or whatever all over the place when mixing.
-The attachments that are included are all you’ll need for most recipes (wire whisk, dough hook, paddle beater). They’re metal with a plastic coating - except for the wire whisk, it’s not coated.
-The warranty is pretty good. KitchenAid will replace/repair the mixer for up to year. I bought my mixer refurbished and it came with a 6 month warranty. I’ve never had a problem with mine - I ‘ve had it 6 months.
Here’s a few things to consider also:
-The mixer is HUGE. It won’t fit under my cabinets when on the counter, so I had to clear a space for it in the pantry.
-It is expensive, but well worth it if you really bake/cook a lot.
-You have to do a lot of scraping on the bowl because there’s a little groove at the very bottom of the bowl and sometimes there’s dry ingredients that don’t get mixed in well.
-Additional attachments and bowls for this mixer are expensive. The attachments like the grinder or pasta maker fit all of the mixers, but the 6 quart bowl costs over $50.00 if you want an extra!
AFTER A YEAR OF USE:
I still really love the mixer. I’ve had a scare with it though. The part of the mixer that pulls the bowl up is now sort of stiff and sometimes it seems as though it is going to become completely stuck.
Also, the mixer won’t fit under my kitchen cabinets, so it’s housed on the floor of my pantry on a piece of wood (so it doesn’t have to sit directly on the floor).
It is a great mixer, still. Just wanted to update after having it for a while.
