Well, I wanted to buy myself a mixer so I started to look for what I should buy. From checking a lot of places and watching TV, I had decided that I would buy myself a kitchen aid.
Now, you must take into consideration that I’m not a professional chef, I’m just a beginner who plans to learn more and more about cooking, especially pastry. I have not owned a mixer before, so I can’t compare this Kenmore mixer to any other mixers. All I can say is that I wanted a mixer and I went around looking.
Of course, as mentioned before, all I found everywhere was Kitchen Aid. And I was decided because they looked like very good mixers. And it seems that’s what the PRO’s use. However, I didn’t have $350 to spend on a more powerful Kitchen Aid. So I had decided to buy the cheap 250Watts one for $170.
While looking around I found that Sears was selling the Kenmore KSM100 for the same price. And this one had 600Watts. I tried looking for information about it (reviews and such) but had no luck finding many. I guess it hasn’t been in the market long.
So the Kenmore KSM100 had 600 Watts (that’s 350 more than the Kitchen aid), it had 16 speeds and it looked much nicer then the Kitchen aid. Well, in my opinion.
I decided to take it home. Some people complain that it is noisy, since I had never had another one, I can’t really say anything about that. However, the noise is nothing I wouldn’t expect from a machine like that. A hand mixer makes more noise in my opinion.
While at the store I did check the attachments and how you install them on both the Kenmore and the Kitchen aid, and I did like the kitchen aid way better, but I personally don’t think that it’s a big deal. I sometimes have more problems getting attachments out of hand mixers.
I prefer the look of the KSM100, although more colors like the Kitchen Aids would have been cool. But oh well.
Now as far as mixing goes, well, it’s my new toy, so you better believe I’ve been playing with it. I’ve made bread, frosting, cake, whip cream, but mostly bread. It has worked beautifully for everything. The controls are digital and the sensitivity level in them is just perfect. I have no problems at all taking speeds up or down. Like a guy in a previous review mentioned, it always starts up slow, which is nice, because I’ve seen what happens when you start fast.
The one thing that I wonder about is if the attachments like the food grinder for the Kitchen Aid would fit this one. Because it has a hole in front just like the KA, but the lady at sears told me that they didn’t fit it. However, she really didn’t seem to have the slightest idea of what she was talking about. Either way, if they don’t, I’m sure Kenmore will come up with some.
Again, I’m not a pro, I don’t have experience owning others, and I’ve only owned this one for a couple of weeks so I can’t tell you how durable it is. But so far, I’m very happy with the mixer I bought and I would recommend it to anyone.
Now just to explain my review. ON Ease of Use I gave it a 5, because all it is are 4 buttons, one for power, two for moving speed up and down and one for starting it. I think anyone should be able to work it.
as for Durability, Well, since I HAVE to give it a score, I’ll give it a 3, just because it looks strong and looks like it won’t break soon. But again, I’ve only had it for 2 weeks so I can’t really talk about that. I guess only time will tell on that.
Ease of cleaning, well, I just clean it with a wet paper towel, so that’s easy.
Style: I love the style.
