Great product/price! - Krups 300 Watts 418 PowerMix Pro Stand Mixer I wanted a stand mixer. Really wanted a stand mixer. My friends had kitchenaids but they were just so expensive,...
I bought this mixer off the internet because I thought the photo was intriguing! Stupid reason? Probably, but I’m an appliance freak and I use stand mixers constantly for bread and cake recipes. After receiving the mixer I was amazed at its similarity to my Bosch Compact. The planetary motion is the same, the whisk, paddle and hook are almost identical (though not quite). My Bosch has a flexible plastic bowl, this one has stainless. The Bosch has 4 speeds, this one has 8. However, this machine has only 300 Watts whereas the Bosch has 450. Plus, this mixer weighs much more.
I have two of the Bosch Compact (Family) mixers because they’re so perfect for lighter-duty mixing, such as cakes, cookies, up to 2 loaves of bread. This mixer will fill the same function. I have the blender, meat grinder, ice cream maker, and food processor attachments for the Bosch. Strangely, they all came in Toastmaster boxes! The same accessories are available for the Krups, save the ice cream maker.
This mixer, like my Bosch mixers, does a much better job at cleaning the bowl with their planetary action than does Kitchen Aid. Unlike the Kitchen Aid, where the paddle, etc. stays vertical and moves around in a circle, the Krups paddle stays in the center of the head, but swivels in a planetary action to clean the bowl. It does a much better job. The Krups has a ’slow-start’ feature to keep from slinging all the ingredients out. Additionally, it has a practical and attractive bowl cover to hold down dusting.
After burning up a 5-quart Kitchen Aid several years ago kneading bread, I swore I’d never get another. I use the fantastic Magic Mill (Electrolux) mixer to do up to a dozen loaves of bread at a time, or 3-4 cake batters at once. For smaller, more normal amounts, though, I’d recommend a mixer of this size and weight. It’s much more substantial than Sunbeam or Hamilton Beach, yet no larger! I paid $150 for mine through www.cooking.com. At that price you can get the blender or other accessories and still not be at the Kitchen Aid price! Plus, the ultra-modern appearance will look great sitting on anyone’s counter.
By the way, if you come across the Bosch Compact/Family instead, it’s also a super machine, and an excellent alternative purchase.
