A year ago Thanksgiving I was at a friend’s house making us all a Thanksgiving dinner. I couldn’t find a hand mixer, but under this cover appeared to be something that might work. I lifted the quilted cover and found this old, antiquated, GREEN stand mixer that said "Kitchenaid" on the front. I had my doubts, but that lemon meringue pie wasn’t going to make itself! I plugged it in, turned it on, and fell in love. I later found out it had belonged to her GRANDMOTHER! It was still going great guns and made a wonderful meringue! I had to have one.

Once I saw the prices I knew I’d have to wait. Reluctantly I put off the purchase. Then I discovered Ebay and ended up purchasing my Kitchenaid from a wholesaler for $160 plus shipping, nearly $100 less than in the stores. I’ve had my mixer a month and I love it! Good bye hand mixer and store bought lemon meringue pies! Hello Kitchenaid and beautiful peaks of glossy meringue!

Actually, the first thing I made with my Kitchenaid was a lemon meringue pie. It was so beautiful, I actually took a photo of it and sent it to my family. So far I love just about everyting about this mixer. The ten speed settings allow me to have a great deal of control over what I mix. The pour shield (which I also bought from Ebay at about 1/3 retail) keeps the mess in the bowl. I’ve just ordered the slicer/grater set to go with it, and am looking forward to slicing and grating my heart out. The Kitchenaid is easy to use and best of all, easy to clean. It is strong as a horse and I expect it will last forever. (After all, I can’t take it with me.)

Who should buy this item? The serious cook who often has more than one thing going on in the kitchen. The mixer alone is worth the price, but the add ons make it indispensable in the kitchen.
