I received this mixer as a bridal shower gift. I was very excited as I had been using the mixer that my mother received for HER bridal shower 28 years ago.
It took me a minute or two to figure out how to insert the beaters. One of them has a flange on the stem, while the other is flat. If you look at the bottom of the mixer, you’ll see that it has pictures…one of the holes has a picture of a beater stem with a flange, the one next to it has a picture of a stem without one. So, I inserted the beaters into the correct holes and things went well. I did discover that you have to push really hard for them to snap into place.
After I had it all ready to go, I decided to make some mashed potatoes. So, I got my potatoes all boiled up, threw them into a bowl with some milk and butter and off I went. I started out on the lowest setting, and that worked pretty well at breaking the potatoes into small pieces. Then I moved onto the second and it that was all it took to make really smooth mashed potatoes.
I have also used it to make whipped cream. I used the third and highest setting for this and it makes quick work of the job…in less than a minute I have billowy and delicious real whipped cream.
Other things that I have used my mixer for are brownie batter, quick bread mixes, pancake batter, muffin mixes, cookie dough, and milk shakes. It works really well for most mixes and batters, but I would stay away from using it for cookie dough again. The dough is just too thick and I worry about wearing out the motor prematurely. I use my Kitchenaid Stand mixer for things like cookie and bread dough. (View my review on the stand mixer at http://www.epinions.com/content_6500683396)
The beaters are thinner than I am used to, but do the job well. They can go right into the dishwasher to be cleaned. To clean the rest of the mixer, just wipe it down with a damp sponge and keep it in a cupboard.
All in all, I love this mixer. It has performed well for me for what I need it to do. If you need a mixer with a very high power, I woudln’t suggest you buy this one. It has three speed levels which I find adequate, but I use it mostly for easy to mix items.
