’twas the night before Thanksgiving and all through the house, not a mixer was stiring, not eve….. WHAT???? That’s right! The night before Thanksgiving I began preparing the food which could be reheated with no problems. One of those items was the famous pumpkin pie I make ever year, but this year, if someone didn’t do something quick, we weren’t going to have the pumpkin pie or any other pie for that matter! I checked in our checking out and we didn’t have but a few dollars, so before I started crying, I sent my daughter down the street to see if we could borrow my friend’s mixer. What a lifesaver my friend was when she sent Khadijah with her Kitchen Aid 3 Speed Classic Hand Mixer back to the house.
The mixer was still in it’s box because this is the way she stores it while not in use, so I saw the price tag on it. $49.99. Wow! I was scared to pull this baby out and even use it for a price like that, but since I was desperate, I pulled it out. What a baby this mixer was! I am so used to smelling the motors on mixers while using them, I had to double check to make sure I didn’t have a cold because I didn’t smell it. This mixer purred while I used it to beat the pumpkin pie mixture together. By the time I was through, I had already been spoiled. I was the stainless steel beaters and set the mixer aside and debated whether or not I should send it back or pretend I had lost it. Since she’s a friend, I decided I’d send it back AFTER I used it through the night. And yes, my mashed potatoes turned out very well with these!
Reluctantly, I had my daughter take the mixer back to her the next day and constantly whined to my husband how much I’d like to have one of those. I, of course, got the usual feedback from him about the price of the mixer and I was reminded we were having a hard time even paying for his meds, much less being able to buy an expensive mixer. So, I never said another word about it. Not to him anyhow. Lucky me was speaking to one of my friends via email who is known for her cooking and I told her how I needed a mixer. It was a good time because her husband had went out and bought her one of the $300 Kitchen Aid mixers, so guess what? YES! She give me her Kitchen Aid 3 Speed Classic Hand Mixer that she no longer needed! And in the bag she give it to me in was a piece not in my other friend’s box… it has a base to stand the mixer on rather than dangling it over the sink or counter top. What a joy this was!
The first thing I made with my mixer was a whipped cream because of the recipes she gave to me with the mixer. She told me it was easy as pie and came out like a charm. She didn’t lie and it didn’t take very long to make it either. From that day forward, I’ve mixed cakes, eggs, mashed potatoes, puddings, and much more with no problem from the purring mixer. I’ve decided after using this one, I’ll never use another $5 mixer from the dollar store. If anything ever happens to this one, I’ll put it on layaway if I can’t afford it straight out! This mixer is powerful enough to mix cookie dough. Try doing that with a $5 mixer and see what happens. I’ve burned up a few mixing cookie dough even though the box claims to be able to mix it. I was a bit leery about mixing cookie down with this one, but it worked.
When it comes to cleaning your mixer, a simple wipe down with a moist towel and it’s clean. Your turbo beaters can be washed in the sink or if you have a dishwasher, they are able to be put in it. Using the mixer is a breeze. The button to eject the beaters is larger than most and you don’t have to break your hand pushing down on it to eject the. There aren’t any openings on the mixer to collect food for roaches, so there won’t be any breeding in your mixer. (Hey, I’ve seen this down with a friend and I chose NOT to eat at her house!) Have no idea on what to make? Never fear, there’s a recipe book with this mixer or you can go to their website and get recipes from there as well.
