Kitchenaid has the best hand mixer I’ve ever seen - KitchenAid KHM5DH Ultra Power® Hand Mixer My mother loves to cook all sorts of dishes, and tended to wear out hand mixers with distressing regularity. So I ...
maker. This Kitchen 5 speed hand mixer keeps going and going and is well worth the triple price of the cheaper mixers that need replacing and replacing. I seriously think it would survive a nuclear blast or in my case…small boys. This mixer has been washed (yes submerged, but who ever thought they would try to clean up) and dropped (many many times and even while turned on), and even had the well marked beaters forced into the wrong holes but is still going after 7 years of hard abuse.
I bought this mixer after burning out two cheaper mixers. They each lasted about twelve to eighteen months. I like making cakes, icing, and double batches of cookie dough but didn’t want to use the space for a stand mixer. I had started to decorate cakes and this was the only mixer I had heard could really make the butter icing. Boy does it…I’ve used this mixer to make triple icing batches using cold butter and my pasta pot to hold it all. This hand mixer can handle double batches of cookies with no problem too. I had hesitated about buying this mixer and had saved up gift certificates since it was $60 at the time and I have never regretted it from the first time I used the mixer.
Mixer specifics
It does have five speeds which may not sound like much but they get the jobs done. I use the beaters for everything.
This mixer also came with dough hooks which I’ve never used. Guess we’re too busy making cakes and cookies.
The mixing blades clean up quickly and the mixer only needs to be wiped with a damp cloth on occasion. Mine still looks great
Downsides
It is not a stand mixer, does not have a bowl rest, and really can’t be stood up on boxes or makeshift platforms unless you were planning on mopping the floor and starting over anyway. (just my personal experiences) While this isn’t really an issue for regular cakes, sponge cakes require over 10 minutes of actual mixing and unless you have children who think its neat to hold the mixer your arm will be tired, but the cakes will still come out great.
