Oh I have missed my Kenwood mixer from the time I lived in Italy for 3 1/2 years!! Thank God for Delonghi! Being a personal chef, I had been depending on my 1994 KitchenAid Professional mixer for quite a while now. But have never been fully satisfied with the power, size or ease of use of the machine. So when I started looking for a new mixer I compared all brands of the professional brands out there. Heard to many negative reviews on KitchenAid (motor, etc.) and from personal experience hated that it still had the lift bowl that is only 6 quarts. Turned to Viking and again was hit with negative reviews again (didn’t reach bottom of bowl, loud motor, overheating, etc.). Finally started looking for a Kenwood mixer, only to find that Delonghi had taken over the Kenwood name in America for a few years now.
The Cadillac of mixers!!! Bar none, the best mixer that I’ve ever owned! Far exceeds the 4,73 litres Kenwood that I owned overseas. Stylish great look, brushed aluminum body, stainless steel bowl and covers for outlets. Very easy to move as entire machine is extremely light. Exterior cleans easily with just a damp clean cloth and no real small cracks or crevices to deal with. Bowl does have two pieces to it and I thought it may be a problem in cleaning when I got the machine, but never have had a problem with it as the dishwasher powers it clean every time.
Locks secure into place in both up and down position. Splashguard is best in the business as it is primarily one piece (except for small cover for opening) and fits to the frame of the mixer. You don’t have to remove or do anything with the guard when changing attachments. Plus fits tightly onto bowl, not letting even liquids out and can double as a temporary lid. Adjustable attachments, you can raise or lower the dough hook, flat beater or whisk to your preference. No more unlocking the bowl and lifting it up to get a good mix (you know who you are, I use to be one). Planetary motion mixing in which the beater moves in the opposite direction that the motor is spinning it. Provides for superior mixing.
980 watts of power, but personally I don’t think that watts mean too much unless you have a steady, powerful motor behind it. Delonghi provides a 10-year warranty on the motor and product comes with an overload protection device. It will shutdown when you’ve overloaded the mixer so as to protect it from going up in smoke. But I haven’t had it bog down on me yet and I’ve put it through full runs of bread dough, 3500 batch of cookies, 275 pies and more.
Easy shift of speeds and won’t wear out (had to replace speed control on KitchenAid as pieces wore out and would only engage at max speed). Slow start feature is nice for times when you don’t have the guard on and pulse is nice for finishing off mixes or cleaning off the beaters when done. Whisk is huge and touches ever part of the bowl. Dough hook actually looks and functions like a commercial mixer where as I’ve seen sad poorly designed ones from other companies. And the flat beater mixes so much better than the old KitchenAid that I was dealing with before. The “K” shape of the beater is a throw back to Kenwood, but I’ll have to say that the “K” provides for a “K”uality mix if you get my drift.
Looking forward to purchasing the pasta maker and other attachments soon. Love the fact that there are three power outlets (High, Medium, Low) on the mixer all well hidden. Bowl has two nice handles on both sides to make it easier to hold and handle. The one handle design on the KitchenAid was killing my wrist at times. And enough can’t be said for a tilt head. Thought that the lift design was nice, but it isn’t what it’s cracked up to be. Would rather get a Hobart if I were to get a lift mixer. Retractable hidden power cord is outstanding! No more wrapping the cord around the mixer and learning sailor knots just to put your mixer away. Just push the cord back into the mixer and you don’t have to worry about it.
I feel sorry for the people suckered into the false prestige of KitchenAid or even Viking. Wish that the major kitchen stores would wake-up and start pushing this powerful, work horse in there stores. Just can’t say enough good things about Delonghi and this mixer.
If you are looking for a great dependable mixer that you will be passing on to your children 30 years from now… this is the mixer for you. Delonghi has never let me down and always seems to far exceed my expectations. If you are looking for quality, power, and a company that backs their product, order the Delonghi mixer now!
Thanks to Etronics store for the great price and quick shipping, 4 days through DHL.
