I have owned this Sunbeam hand mixer for quite a few years, and I was surprised to see that nobody had written a review on it yet. Let me be the first to do so, because this is a very nice hand mixer. I don’t even know if Sunbeam makes this model any longer, because it’s not on their website - although it is available at Shopping.com.

If you shop like me, you buy products at garage sales and on eBay - so I am going to write this review in case you run across this model, you’ll know if it is worth buying.

Product Description

This Sunbeam is a hand mixer, and although it only has 100 watts of power (compared to the 6 speed that has 220 watts), it is very versatile and works for most jobs.

It has 4-speeds, an off button, and an eject button for removing the beaters.

The handle is ergonomically designed, and indeed it is very comfortable to use, even for extended periods (like beating meringue, or whipped cream).

The chrome-plated beaters are very durable, and are easy to clean. They are dishwasher safe.

It has a one-touch beater ejection button that pushes a bit hard, but that’s good because you don’t want the beaters coming out accidentally.

There is a convenient built in heel rest that prevents tip-overs between mixing tasks.

Performance

This Sunbeam Hand Mixer is adequate for most jobs, such as mixing cake mix, muffin mixes, and cookie batter. I really haven’t had any experiences with it not being able to handle the job at hand. It would be nice to have a motor that is a little more powerful, just because I think it would probably do the same job at a faster pace.

While the newer Sunbeam Hand Mixer has 6 speeds, the model 2487 has only four. I don’t know if 6 speeds are needed for a hand mixer, however. I do have a Sunbeam upright mixer that works on anything, but it takes up so much room in my kitchen cupboards that it is in storage. The beaters on the hand held are the same full size beaters that my larger upright uses.

The mixer is made of a hard, sturdy white plastic, and clean up is simple. I just take a damp dishcloth and wipe it down after each use. It cannot be immersed in water, and the use of any abrasive cleaners (like Comet) will leave scratches on the surface.

The motor never needs any extra lubrication, and should this need repair, it can be sent to the Sunbeam Appliance Service Station. However, since this model can be found at Shopping.com for only $17.00 and eBay has it “new in box” for $5.00, it would not make sense to pay shipping to have an older model hand mixer repaired.

If you happen to need a hand mixer and run across this model, I highly recommend it, because it has performed for me very nicely.

Super Easy Spice Muffin Mix

1 box carrot cake mix

1 small can pumpkin

2 eggs

Mix all with Sunbeam mixer

Bake at 350 degrees until toothpick comes out clean.
