I needed a new hand mixer after my old one died. I’m a frequent baker of all types of pastries, so a good mixer is important to me.

After looking at a few in store, I chose this 5-speed Black & Decker. I liked the fact that it had 2 sets of whisks, which can come in handy if you need to beat two different things for the same recipe. It also comes with an attachment that scrapes the bowl as you’re mixing. The price was also quite good ($40 Canadian).

The Black & Decker Ergo handheld mixer upon first inspection looks like it is supposed to be ergonomic (supposedly more comfortable) to hold. In actuality it resembles a duck. I was delighted at having a new mixer after using an inexpensive, broken mixer for twelve years!! Boy was I in for a disappointment. I was given this mixer as a Christmas present and I don’t have the heart to tell the gift giver. I found this machine awkward and downright uncomfortable to use. I developed a cramp in my forearm the first time I used it. It is also very loud and quite heavy in your hand.

I have had my Quisinart SmartPower mixer for one year and can’t believe I ever got along without it! I really found that the read out LED on the handle is great (for those timed mixes!) and when you set a speed, it stays at that speed even if the substance gets thicker!

The beaters although the same size and shape as my old Black & Decker have held up MUCH better and are as good as when I got them!

My mom who is 83 said she’d thought the extra features foolish when I got it—but guess who loves to use it and keeps telling me how great it is? (RIGHT)

My old huge Sunbeam Mixmaster is loving it’s rest! I never lug it out except for something that needs kneading!

I am sure that you all have had occasion when you have been too lazy to get up and assemble your mixer to make a milkshake or have hand beaten your eggs for a cake. I know I have. My mixer is huge and hard to clean also. I have had this Black & Decker Gizmo Twist Mixer since Christmas. It was a gift from my sister. I don’t think I would have gone out and bought this product specifically for myself but it has come in useful for a few things around the kitchen.

I finally bought a KitchenAid mixer. I’d wanted one for a long time, but I hated to spend so much for a small kitchen appliance. I write about food and cooking and was struggling with my Black & Decker hand mixer. It’s a great hand mixer, but it’s not a stand mixer. When I tried to make bread for the holidays and wound the dough up to the hand mixer base (making bread is not recommended by Black & Decker or other hand mixer companies), I made up my mind to get a stand mixer. My grandmother had used a KitchenAid as far back as I could remember (the same one), so I began comparing and price checking.

I wrote an Epinion on how much I disliked the Black & Decker cordless hand mixer and that I had to go out and buy another more powerful and useful mixer. Well this is it, the Oster Hand Stand Mixer , and here is why I am very happy with it.

This model is a stand mixer with a removable hand mixer. That is very handy for whatever job needs to be done. I bake a lot this time of year because of the holidays and this mixer is used almost everyday during the month of December. It does a wonderful job mixing my cookie doughs and bread doughs. You can’t beat it for brownie mixes and cake mixes. My daughter’s favorite cookie is made with whipped egg whites and this mixer has the speed it needs to do this quickly and easily.

Not very durable

Positive Looks good and is easy to operate. Comes with wire whisks for beating eggs.
Cons: Not durable at all. Gears are plastic and strip out very easily.
