Kitchen Mixer Help

I got my Kitchen Aid just a few weeks before Christmas 2001. I had seen them on TV in just about every cooking program imaginable, in various colours. If Ainsley Harriot has one, I had to have one too. Ainsley is my hero, you see. Anyway, despite it’s obvious good looks, it’s contemporary design….it is a very functional piece of kit. Another review mentioned that it was too heavy…but anyone that has ever tried to make bread in one will know that it is a BENEFIT. Think about it, do you want the bread dough staying still while the mixer flies around orbiting it? or do you want the mixer to stay still while the bread dough flies around in the bowl? If you have to keep moving it from a cupboard to a work surface, then it’s not really the machine for you. It is designed, and deserves (quite frankly) to have its own place on the counter.

I wanted a stand mixer. Really wanted a stand mixer. My friends had kitchenaids but they were just so expensive, and I didn’t like the way they looked (dumb reason, I know). A friend of mine bought the Powermix and really liked it so I decided to ask my husband for one as my birthday gift- and I really feel like I’ve made a good decision. It has not failed me yet. I do some entertaining, but mainly I use it for family sized meals (4-6 people). While I have no kids, I do cook for myself and my husband as well as my mom and usually a friend or three for dinner. I make breads, pies, cookies, etc. I love to bake. I have not felt that the machine was underpowered, which is a common complaint with stand mixers. It mixes really, really well. It comes with whisk, kneading and dough hook. The planetary motion and slow start are great features. No more ending up with flour all over the place once the machine starts! The only downside is that the kitchenaid comes with lots of neat attachements. I think this is a great alternative if you are looking for a great, basic, household (not heavy duty) stand mixer, and you don’t want to pay for a kitchenaid. I have no complaints! It is a very good, hard working, trusty houshold machine.

I bought this mixer off the internet because I thought the photo was intriguing! Stupid reason? Probably, but I’m an appliance freak and I use stand mixers constantly for bread and cake recipes. After receiving the mixer I was amazed at its similarity to my Bosch Compact. The planetary motion is the same, the whisk, paddle and hook are almost identical (though not quite). My Bosch has a flexible plastic bowl, this one has stainless. The Bosch has 4 speeds, this one has 8. However, this machine has only 300 Watts whereas the Bosch has 450. Plus, this mixer weighs much more.
