This workhorse of a mixer features a solid metal body with tilting head, 710 watts of power (about 3/4 horsepower), planetary mixing action, variable speed with a “pulse” setting, 3 mixing attachments, 3 more outlets for accessories, a 10 year warranty on the motor and 1 year on the complete machine, a stainless steel bowl with a 5 pint capacity (that is 5 imperial 20 floz. pints I believe, not US 16 floz. pints), an overload protection feature, and attractive European styling (mine is stainless steel/white). This mixer is not designed to sit on your counter looking pretty and colourful, it is designed to sit on your counter and be worked hard every day for decades.

Bosch MUM 6610 Universal Mixer

Our 17-year old Sunbeam stand mixer died in a cloud of smoke just before Christmas, victim of my 13-year old son’s batch of gingerbread dough. I was quite cheerful about this because I like to bake with the kids, and the old Sunbeam didn’t have enough power for heavy mixing, plus I was concerned about little fingers near the twin beaters. I had been admiring Costco’s enormous heavy-duty 450 watt KitchenAid mixer for a couple of years, and now I could justify buying one.

I was given my KitchenAid as a birthday gift and couldn’t be happier. I am just starting to get into bread making and had considered a bread machine. The KichenAid stand mixer has turned out to be a much more versatile machine though. For making bread, I’ve found that it makes the job very easy. This is due to the fact that you can knead the dough with the machine, thereby cutting down on all or most of your hand kneading. I still do the punching down and second knead by had though, as most recipes call for only minimal kneading the second time. I have used the KitchenAid for the second knead as well though.

My wife and I recieved our Kitchen Aide Classic mixer as a wedding gift. It may be the best gift we got.

The Kitchen Aide is aesthetically pleasing, it has an old-fashioned look that seems to add a bit of class to any kitchen. The machine has smooth lines that remind one of days past.

However, looks are not the most important attribute of an appliance. Durability is! The Kitchen Aide has durability to spare. This device is built to last. Pick it up and you know that you’re dealing with some serious equipment. Its weight speaks volumes about its strength. As for the inner mechanism, well I haven’t looked at it, but I know that I’ve put the mixer through its paces and it still runs as smoothly as the day we recieved it.

I received the KitchenAid KSM90 Stand Mixer for a birthday

gift. I admit it. I was too lazy to read the manual and

set it up. After all, I had a hand mixer. Granted, the

electrical connection was “funky” and occasionally, a new

curly hairstyle was served up with dinner. But on my

birthday, the last thing I wanted to do was unpack a big

appliance, set it up on my clutter free counter and snuggle

up with a technical manual. So I ignored the box for a

couple of weeks.
