Take a Stand or a Beating! - KitchenAid 300 Watts KSM90 Ultra Power Series Stand Mixer

Still a great mixer, but…. - KitchenAid 300 Watts KSM90 Ultra Power Series Stand Mixer I grew up using my mom's KitchenAid, which dated from the "good old days" when they were manufactured by Hobart. S...

Why you need a KitchenAid Ultra Power KSM90 - KitchenAid 300 Watts KSM90 Ultra Power Series Stand Mixer My mom has a KitchenAid and they are wonderful. She has had it for a few years now and still uses it all the time....

My Best Deal Ever

I consider myself very fortunate when it comes to my KitchenAid stand mixer, I found it at a closeout store, brand spanking new, still in the box with the original $219.00 price marked down to $50.00! It was the last one in the store and as I was holding it in my hands the sales clerk was asking me if I were going to buy it because there was someone on the phone who wanted it if I were not going to buy it. I couldn’t wait to get home and tell the girls on AOL’s Tightwad board, they would be as thrilled as I was about my great deal and some of them still talk about it to this day. That was over a year ago and I consider it my best deal of all time, it was my lucky day! : )

Big Deal?

What is the big deal you ask about a KitchenAid stand mixer? That was the very question I asked when I first came to the Tightwad board, it seemed like everyone there had one except me and I asked the question, what is the big deal? You would have thought I’d asked the question, Is baseball as American as apple pie? That turned out to be my first flame war on the board, and I have since lived to tell the story of how I too fell in love with the KitchenAid stand mixer and how it made my life easier in the kitchen.

Favorite Feature

If I had to pick my favorite feature about this stand mixer, it would have to be the ease with which it mixes things, thus making it easier for me because I don’t have to do it! My most favorite Peanut Butter Cookie recipe is pretty hard to mix by hand but not with the KitchenAid stand mixer, it is like putty in the hands of the master. Here is the recipe if you are so inclined to make it:

Peanut Butter Cookies

Ingredients:

1 cup flour

1 cup peanut butter

1 can sweetened condensed milk (some call it Eagle Brand milk)

Directions:

Add all ingredients in a bowl and mix well. Take a teaspoon full and roll into a ball and place on an ungreased cookie sheet. With a fork that has been dipped in flour, make a criss cross pattern in the top of the cookie. When you have a cookie sheet full of them, Bake them at 350 degrees for 8 to 10 minutes. These are the simplest, best cookies and very easy to make. Especially when mixed in the KitchenAid.

Yum! Yum!

The best rolls I ever tasted were mixed in a KitchenAid stand mixer. The mother of a dear friend of mine makes them all the time and they are so good, they just about melt in my mouth! She has been known to say that the secret to her rolls is her KitchenAid stand mixer.

Features

The KitchenAid stand mixer has features that set it apart from the rest of the appliances in my kitchen. Here are just a few worth mentioning:

The Motor Head has a safety feature that allows it to lock into place while in use. A great feature for both children and adults.

Beater Height Adjustment - The mixer is adjusted at the factory so that the flat beater just clears the bottom of the bowl. If for any reason, the flat beater hits the bottom of the bowl or is too far away from the bowl, clearance can be corrected with this feature.

The Stainless Steel Wire Whip is perfect for ingredients that need air incorpoprated into them like egg whites, eggs, heavy cream, boiled frostings, sponge cakes, angel food cakes, mayonnaise and some candies like divinity that I made this past Christmas.

The Flat Beater is perfect for mixing cakes, creamed frostings, candies, cookies, pie pastry, biscuits, quick breads, and mashed potatoes, just to name a few things.

5 Quart Stainless Steel Bowl - the quality of stainless steel is such that this bowl will give you years of service. It can even serve as a serving bowl if you are so inclined.

The Dough Hook is perfect for mixing and kneading yeast doughs like breads, rolls, coffee cakes and pizza dough. If you love pizza, you will reap the rewards of this mixer each and every time you make hot pizza from the oven.

Bowl Lift Handle

Speed Control

The KitchenAid has Speed Control which is actually ten speeds with which to mix your ingredients. Stir, Slow Mixing, Mixing, Beating, Beating, Creaming, Fast Beating, Whipping, and Fast Whipping.

Attachments and Accessories

KitchenAid attachments are designed to assure long life according to the manufacturer. The attachments available include a Food Grinder, Fruit, Vegetable Strainer, Citrus Juicer, Pasta Maker, Water Jacket (Fill with ice, cold or hot to keep cold mixtures cold, hot ones, hot) Pouring Shield, Bowl Covers, and the Mixer Cover. Of course each of these are sold separately from the mixer itself.

Yuck!!

One important rule to follow when using this type of mixer is to avoid over mixing. The KitchenAid mixer will mix faster and more thoroughly than most other electric mixers. Therefore, the mixing time in most recipes must be adjusted to avoid over beating. I learned this lesson the hard way one day when I made a meat loaf. The end result was inedible to me, so be sure to avoid over mixing anything.

In Conclusion

I would like to say that this mixer has been a huge time saver for this busy Mom. And that means less time in the kitchen and more time spent with my family. It is a high quality, name brand appliance that I expect will give me years of service in my kitchen. I would highly recommend it to all my friends and family and if you are considering the purchase of a stand mixer, I would recommend it to you as well.

Thank you for taking the time to read my Epinion on the KitchenAid stand mixer. I hope this review has been helpful to you in some way. If you have any questions, feel free to email me at Bar2969@aol.com and I will be glad to answer them for you.
