We tried five Kitchen Aid mixers before giving up in disgust. Then we discovered this Kenwood Major Classic. We needed to be able to make large quantities of whole grain bread. It has never let us down. Bigger than any personal mixer, not as big as a commercial one. We have used it constantly for six years, and it has never given us one bad moment. With its heavy-duty motor, it mixes heavy dough like a charm. Very easy to clean, unlike the Bosch. Heavy stainless steel bowl is the highest quality–no plastic to scratch or outgas.

Problems? Minor. When we have it filled with a heavy bread, it wants to walk across the counter. Easy to fix–put a non-slip pad underneath. It doesn’t do small quantities at all (e.g., beating two eggs for a cake mix, or creaming a single batch of butter and sugar). We have a small hand-mixer that we keep for those times.

Durable? I turned my back one day and it “walked” off the kitchen counter (very heavy dough, my fault). It hit the floor, but the plug didn’t come out of the socket. It never stopped mixing! We turned it off, inspected it, found a very small ding on the housing near the top (you would have expected it to be disintegrated). No difference in the running of it since.

I cannot recommend this mixer enough. There isn’t another one to be considered, once you’ve seen this one at work!
