KitchenAid needs to go back to the drawing board on this one… - KitchenAid 525 Watts KP2671X Stand Mixer I have owned this product for about a year now, and was so thrilled when I first got it! As a cake decorator, the...

I have two of this model (windmere hand mixer mx 20). I basically recieved these as gifts, as I am a college student and am somewhat interested in contemporary hand and stand mixers. I am becoming a teacher and I would like to make it clear to all that I am not an engineer nor, do I work for this or any other small appliance company. I must say however that I have tested many hand, and stand mixers on some spare times with friends though I am most disgusted with this hand mixer.

This hand mixer has a 125 watt motor. It is manufactured by the EXACT same factory (windmere durable electrical metal factory -China) which makes most Black and decker hand mixers which are really good hand mixers. They also make cheap (really cheap) Hamilton Beach/Proctor Silex 5 speed 100- 125 watt hand mixers and coffee makers.

I will start with the “positives”; It features 5 speeds, 125 watt motor. You might as well use it for whipping cream or small amounts of mashed potatoes. The beaters are excellent and durable. In fact I think that the beaters are more $$valuable than the mixer. The factory that makes this mixer can do much better than this. They also manufacture an excellent line of Black and Decker hand mixers with at least 200 - 230 watts of power. Those are the models that I would definitely consider going with. Back to this pathetic excuse for a mixer, I attempted to mix cookie dough though, not with the flour in it. I am aware that it isn’t designed for this kind of usage. I was simply trying to see if it could in fact cream butter and sugar together Then I had to switch to a real mixer to finish the job, the Black and Decker power pro mx77. The butter was soft, the mixer strained enormously, actually it was beginning to show signs of overheating. I then realized that I made my point. Just days later we attempted to make a Strawberry Shortcake with this unit. The batter was light and the recipe calls for vigorous mixing on medium -high speed for at least 7 minutes and, again this windmere hand mixer was beginning to get uncomfortably warm after about 4 minutes. I brought my concerns to Applica Consumer Products. They than sent out a much, MUCH better replacement model: The Black and Decker “Power Pro” hand mixer mx77 200 watts. This newer mixer has special beaters to aid the motor slice right through a double batch of cookie dough It really is amazing and the representatives are positive and great to deal with. The motor is extremely powerful and, the beater attachments rock as they are wire beaters. And the replacement mixer has “BOOST POWER BUTTON”.

In conclusion, I do not want this negative review to be perceived as an attack on Applica inc. My review is an honest opinion which I am sure you would also be immensely disappointed with this unit as well if you attempted to use it, windmere mixer mx20. I personally feel that this company imports some of the worst hand mixers, and some of the finest. For more information, visit www.blackanddecker.com. For more info on this mx20 (buy at your own risk) hand mixer visit www.windmere.com. Either way these two divisions are both companies that belong entirely to Applica Consumer Products which in my opinion has one of the best costumer service representatives who are excellent to deal with. I would personally stay away from this mx20 model. IT’S HORRIBLE. Just look at their Black and Decker line, and I personally guarantee that you will be in awe by the performance. You will find that overheating is a thing of the past.
