I am at my sister-in-laws home in Colorado at the moment, and just finished using her Black and Decker Power Pro hand mixer. I am so impressed with it that I had to jump onto Epinions and do a quick write up of it.

This is one sturdy mixer. I started using it and thought, Wow, is this a KitchenAid?. I was surprised when I saw it was a Black and Decker. The unit is a fair bit larger than my Sunbeam hand mixer, and it is quite heavy.
The wire beaters have a “collar” on them that allows them to fit into the opening one way only. You simply match up the collared beater to the illustration on the Mixer to place it in the proper hole. A push of the beater snaps it securely into place.
The spatula attachment worked great for me today, as I just finished making a no bake cheesecake and there was a fair amount of batter accumulating on the sides of the bowl. This attachment is designed to scrape the bowl as you mix with it, and it works great.
The large chrome beaters is only made up of four wires, so they are very sturdy and there is good deal of space between them. I finished off using the whisk attachment, which made my batter extremely creamy with no cream cheese lumps of any kind when I was finished.
The Power Boost button is located below the speed control switch, and it allows you to increase the speed to the maximum level of any of the five settings. This is handy if you are mixing a thick batch of cookie dough and the mixer bogs down some. As soon as the boost button is released, it returns back to it’s original pre-selected speed.
The speeds are:
1) Low for blending
2) Mow/medium for stirring
3) Medium for mixing
4) Med/High for beating
5) High for whipping
6) Power boost
Thoughts
I love this mixer so much that I am going to watch for it on sale when I return home to Alaska. I got rid of my large upright mixer, and only have a small hand held that doesn’t hold a candle to this Black and Decker Power Pro.
The handle extends upward quite generously and would be great for anyone with large hands. The unit is white and the slightly cushioned grip is gray.
The eject button pushes in easily and the beaters eject completely from the mixer with a simple push. The only thing I don’t care for is the placement of the speed control. I am used to being able to push it forward or pull it backward, but this mixer is designed so it pushed perpendicular to the control, which makes it a little awkward to use, at least for me. I had to stop and think about it as it didn’t come as a natural movement for me.
The five speeds and the different attachments make this a very versatile mixer. It would be great for mixing up egg whites, whipped cream, puddings, and thicker batters like brownie and cookie batters. I can’t think of much that this wouldn’t be able to handle.
The hard plastic material makes for easy clean up, just touch up with a wet hot dish cloth, and it cleans up easily.
All in all, I think this mixer is a very powerful hand mixer that does about everything that a full sized counter top mixer would do. I am really impressed with it!
Two thumbs up on this Black and Decker. It comes with a one year warranty.
