WHIP IT…WHIP IT UP !! - KitchenAid KHM5DH Ultra Power® Hand Mixer I have always loved a moist white cake with rich chocolate frosting....more than I like all the others too! ;>}...
I have one of the Kitchenaid “big boys” for when I’m doing major baking. However, it is quite heavy, cumbersome and not necessary for all mixing jobs.
Several years ago, I decided to purchase this light weight, to whip cream, cake batters and light, portable jobs.
Being that I do own a number of Kitchenaid products, I decided to choose this model, based on its product history.
This is one mighty little mixer. It comes with dough hooks (which I never use) and regular beaters. If I’m making dough, I bring out the big boy.
This is a standard sized hand portable mixer, 120 volts of elbow grease. It is made of hard plastic and appears durable, no chips or breaks in the 3-4 years of ownership.
It strikes me odd that Kitchenaid is making the “big boys” in many colors and that the portables are condemned to white. It is non-offensive, nonetheless. The hard plastic exterior does clean up easily, with a little soap and water.
I have found that this mixer stands up very well. It blends mixtures together perfectly. It has 5 speeds that still work. To release the beaters, you depress the button and off they pop. The beaters are stainless steel and clean up easily.
I have owned other brands, slightly cheaper, like Sunbeam and Hamilton Beach, and they tend to give up after one year of use. I’m tired of this planned obsolescence.
I prefer to have a quality item that will stand up and do what it is supposed to do. This mixer is wonderful as a portable. As I have said earlier, I have not used this on dough, but my daughter has used this for cookies and it did the job very nicely.
I believe I paid $59.99 for this item, and I believe the price has remained about the same today.
I am very happy with the performance of this mixer and give it a very high recommendation.
